GETAWAY.

I’ve never been camping. Honestly, I don’t know that I’m the type. I just…love a regular toilet and a fan at night. I do love the idea of disconnecting and simplifying in nature for a few days though. Enter Getaway. I have seen these ads in my instagram for months and always dreamily looked at the large window by the bed. We finally got the opportunity to go. To be fair, we didn’t necessarily WANT to take the kids this time as we are with them 24/7 but since we are headed to Italy in a few weeks, we decided we needed to be good parents. Plus, they’ve been BEGGING to go camping for years and this is about as much as I was willing to do.

The drive up was beautiful and windy and October-tastic. I don’t think we could’ve picked a more perfect time of year. It was pretty much exactly as I had imagined. They did an incredible job of communicating beforehand and I felt like I knew exactly what to expect. They also were great about answering questions and preparing me with plenty of ideas to do nearby. This sweet, personalized welcome was above and beyond.

It was quiet, but not in that “I’m in a horror movie and no one will know if I get murdered” kinda way. The cabin had everything we needed. We only brought food and clothing. The shower was nice and came stocked with biodegradable toiletries. There was hot water, and an air conditioner which we didn’t use during the day much.

We brought games, puzzles, coloring stuff, and books to read. We tried to do as little tech as possible. Although, after it ended up raining and the kids were LIT in that tiny cabin, we watched a downloaded version of Fievel Goes West. When I say the kids were lit, this is how we woke up each morning…

I learned things. I know how to do it better next time. There WILL be a next time. This might be my new fav way to unplug and reset. It’s super affordable too.
