GO HOME?

Yesterday, I started to notice stories of people I know standing up for Beth Moore. I had zero idea what was happening. I never really do. I never know the authors I’m supposed to know. I have zero clue what’s happening in worship music world. I’m just out of the loop. To be honest, I’ve never even read any Beth Moore. I’ve done one small devotional. However, she is a frequent reference in my home as I tend to yell “GET OUT OF THAT PIT” to my husband at random occurrences. It’s just one of those weird, married household jokes that come about.

I reached out to a friend to fill me in. And let me just tap into my southern vernacular when I say…Y’ALL.

I sat there and listened to these old “Christian” men, one of whom was apparently a bestseller and fairly renowned (not to me), laugh about Beth Moore. He laughed at the idea of a woman preacher and said her talents would be best used for selling jewelry on tv. He told her to go home.

GO HOME?

My heart sank. I sit here in tears. Author Sarah Bessey lit into these men and laid out why they were wrong better than I ever could, so you can read her essay here. Although I was angry for Beth Moore, she’s a big girl. She’s been dealing with jerks a long time. She’s handled the boys club with maturity and wisdom longer than I’ve been alive. I am actually broken because the men on the panel, and the men sitting in the room who laughed and applauded, are hurting the reputation of Jesus. These men are acting as representatives of the one who IS love. Yet they are overflowing with pride and sexism. One of them had the nerve to call Beth Moore “narcissistic” and HELLO HOW ARE YOU CALLING SOMEONE ELSE NARCISSISTIC?!

This complete bastardization of the gospel hurts. Can you IMAGINE Jesus telling Beth Moore to GO HOME?

Many are calling for this man to apologize to Beth Moore and to apologize to women. I think it goes much deeper than that. I think these men should be on their faces, weeping in repentance, that they have misrepresented the heart of Jesus so wildly. They should be in mourning that their foolish behavior has caused damaged to the body of believers that Jesus loves so much, he laid down his life for.

The power of life and death is in the tongue and you sir, are inflicting death.
