DEMOCRAT OR REPUBLICAN

I’m not a Republican.

I’m not a Democrat.

For the most part, the behavior of both major parties leaves me with low grade nausea. I used to cling so tightly to what I wanted for America and what I thought was right. However, I’ve released it all. I have opinions. I really do. They are educated and well thought out. But they just don’t really matter in the end. I will vote for what I think is right, but unless it is something in direct conflict with what I believe to be the heart of God, I stay pretty silent on most major topics. My opinion brings nothing to the table really. Especially in the land of internet proclamations. Plus, a wise man once said “Don’t give up any more influence than you have to.” (Holla at ya boy Andy Stanley).

Why do we cling to labels? Why do we feel the need to defend ourselves? Even worse, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, WHY DO WE FEEL THE NEED TO LABEL THE OTHER SIDE AS IDIOTS?!

We act like enemies. Christians, I beg of you, look at those “idiots” and know that they are a reflection of the Creator. They have their own life experiences that shape their idea of how things are and how they should be. I am SO grateful social media wasn’t around when I was younger. I had a LOT of different ideas than I do now. People are on a journey, and hopefully they are growing and learning.

We all want the same result right? Safety, security, a great country….but we just disagree on the HOW. Are we attacking each other and closing out ears and hearts because we can’t agree on HOW to get there?

I will never be conservative enough for the conservatives. In fact, many of the people I know who are conservatives would be appealed at some of the things I’m totally on board with.

I will never be liberal enough for the liberals. Many people I know who are liberals would be shocked at some of the beliefs that I hold dear.

One day, I have this sick dream of releasing a list of all of the major topics and my stance on each one and just letting people go crazy. However, I have not reached the age where I don’t care what people think though. Check back with me in a cool 20 or 50 years.

I just have to pause and ask again…do we REALLY think Jesus would care to align himself with a political party? I THINK he was busy loving people and being the hands and feet of the Father. I just can’t begin to wrap my brain around the idea that Jesus would be on the computer, sharing articles about politicians he hated.

In very recent terms, maybe Christians should release their idea of America and what makes it safe and good and strong. Maybe they should care about the hurting people who are being treated very poorly. I don’t begin to know what the solution is policy wise but I don’t think that’s my job. My instructions were to Love God and Love People, not to stand up for America.
